Just got a bb9000. No cds though and no windows, i checked bb's homepage for programs but they only have it for pc and mac.
so i wonder how i can update the os

Far as I know, you'll need to either run a dual boot with MS, or borrow a computer from a friend/family member.

still not sure how to update it to os 5 any advice??

If you are using it on someone elses computer and want it on your own you can install VirtualBox for linux and run a copy of xp on there. To upgrade your OS on the phone go into Desktop manager and device/update. If there are any available updates they will be listed.
