Earlier this week I upgraded to OS .231 from .114, and it was painless and works perfectly on my device - I'm happy about that. However, there was a discussion about whether DM 4.7 was less buggy than 4.6 - 4.7 seemed to win the argument, so I upgraded, dutifully, like a good Little Nazi.

But, since that time, each time I synch my BB, a window pops up that says "search for application updates", and takes about five minutes to get through this process. Then, I get a message that states "Updated versions of the applications listed below are available for your device", and it lists "BlackBerry 4.6 System Software".

Now, I've checked, and my operating system is definitely v4.6.1.231 (Platform 4.2.0.108) and shouldn't need updating, right? After I received this message several times, I decided to let it go ahead and update. It took about 15 minutes to do this, and my BB seemed fine afterward - nothing had changed.

So this afternoon, while synching, the same thing happens (5 minutes of searching for updates, updated versions of OS are available, blah, blah).

Does anyone know what's up with this, besides the fact that I should have listened to Fatboy instead of JSanders?

    Ignore the update messages.

No sauciness here at this time - but, for later reference, from where would DM 5.0 be available?

Personally, I still use DM 4.6... I'd like to see what happens with DM 5.0, but I'm not going to be one of the early ones to check.

More than likely you have your OS still loaded on your PC... that is the reason it is checking for updates so long... I just went into add/remove programs and removed my BB OS... then I ran DM 4.6... it did do a check for updates (took less than 15 seconds), but it did not say there where any language updates.

Oh, never mind - I found it on the BlackBerry site. Seriously, does it work well? I generally eschew updating, but the sauciness is coming on strong now....

So, Fatboy, I can just delete "BlackBerry Dvice Software v4.6.1 for the BB 8900 Smartphone" from Add/Remove PRograms with no adverse reaction? It definitely shows up there.....

Yes you can... I usually keep my install file around... I think I've still got .114 hanging around on my PC... but it's not installed.

Lazerus, good call on your recommendation for the Desktop Manager 5.0 upgrade. I've been using it for about 36 hours now, have performed several sychronization operations, and can attest that it's a solid program.

Also, MUCH faster than previous versions of DM......
