my mac can see the torch is present but desktop manager cannot connect. help?

I`ve told this story 3 times now but it may be relevant My torch wasn`t connecting to the computer properly The computer could see it but not the memory card then I noticed when I plugged it in the sound on the computer sounded like I was plugging it in 3 times (Be-bonk,Bebonk,Be-bonk) anyway it didn`t sound right. So after holding the wire tight everything works fine.
