Installing bb desktop software v6.0, do I need desktop manager 5?

Tryed to update DM and it offer me to download and install blackberry desktop software v6.0. Is it necessary? What is it for?

Its just an improvement over the previous desktop manager. I like the UI a lot better and it is faster with syncing, backups, and media transfers. It is definitely worth upgrading.

Well it looks better, but it gave me alot of connectivity issues where when I connect my BB, it would sit there and scan for the apps on it forever....nothing happens no matter what I did......back to 5.0.1

Some have found DM 6 not so user-friendly. Things were much obvious and easy to do with DM 5.

I personally haven't tried DM 6. Desktop Manager 5 does the job

No you dont need Desktop Manager 5. I think DM 6 is awesome. Definitely great on the looks (UI) and well more organised too.
