The Backup/Restore seem to be a ton faster (although it also didnt restore my SMS messages with pictures) but it works very good and consistent on my vista x64 machine. The older version was hit or miss for me.

Agree 100%... Why do people always have to question new versions of any software? Has anyone ever questioned Windows updates or Office updates? Probably not, everyone installs them most likely automaticly, but everything that comes from RIM is debated to shreds. I don't get it
DM 4.7 introduced significant problems that did not exist in DM 4.6. That's sufficient reason to be cautious.
What problems? I never had any troubles at all with it. New software is usually an improvement and if not you can always go back to the older Version that worked for you.
DM 4.7 was RIM's first attempt at automating the OTA upgrade process. It didn't play well with utilities like CrackMem. That's not RIM's fault. It isn't reasonable to expect them to code for compatibility with 3rd party utilities. But it was sufficient reason for many of us to stay with DM 4.6, and to recommend DM 4.6 to users who wanted to customize their OS installs.

Then you don't know any computer techs.
Let me tell you about XP SP3 and AMD processors...

Using MS is a very bad analogy. Plenty of people question updates from MS lol.

Tell me,
I've been running XP before it came out, installed every SP there was and never had a problem. At least not noticable to the average user. Same with Vista and I'm playing around with W7 now. All that on a AMD machine... Just because some people have issues doesn't mean the update is bad. For the majority of users there is no problem with new software and I recommend everyone to keep their stuff up to date. Sure, if you try to install XP on a 18 year old PC you run into problems... but thats a different story.
so why do an update when we hear several people have problems with version 5? I don't understand the need to update. the latest version 5.140 seems to worry ??

The problems are with the OS 5.0 and BBM 5.0, not DM.

Yes. I always question windows updates when it comes to installing them on servers or deploying major releases. And for good reason. They break stuff if you are not careful. You think they tell you to back up your system for no reason ?
