Desktop Manager opens Internet Explorer

Hello all, I just bought my Curve 9300 and tried to upload the desktop software. Some time back I started getting some very persistent pop-ups in Internet Explorer so I stopped using, switching to Firefox. So, when I was in the upload process the software itself opens Internet Explorer and I simply can't go on from that point because of the popups.

Also, I previously used a Blackberry Pearl Flip. I tried to use the existing desktop manager on my laptop and it seemed to be working when I tried to sync the last backup file with the new phone. It went through the whole process then told me the sync was unsuccessful.

Is it possible to use the same desktop manager or how can I get the new software to avoid going to IE?
