New in town - First impressions of Blackberry
Hi guys-
I've been using a Treo 600 for the past 9 months or so, but recently made the switch to a Curve 8320, as the touchscreen died on my Treo. I was planning on waiting for the Bold, but I didn't want to wait 6+ months for T-Mobile to get it.
That was a week ago. After spending some time with my Curve, here are my first impressions: Positives
-The keyboard is much more comfortable to use than the Treo's
-The keyboard shortcuts, like those on my old Treo, really speed things up when typing.
-The interface is a little slower than the Treo's but much better than my Dad's Dash (A WinMo smartphone).
-Unlike the Treo, my Curve is rock-solid stable
-UMA calling over WiFi is great Negatives
-There are fewer free 3rd party apps than there are for Palm OS. I have heard about the BB platform being hard to develop for.
-There is no quick shortcut to type symbols. On the Treo, all it took was a quick double-tap of a key to type the symbol on it. Maybe there's an app that does this.
-On the Treo, SMS messages were threaded by contact. This would be a GREAT addition to the BB OS
Overall, I am loving the new phone. I have yet to purchase a BB data plan, but I may have to give in eventually.
I look forward to becoming a part of the community.
-Joel
P.S- Big shout out to Brian (BMcClure937) for introducing me to Blackberry!
