Congrats! The Bold 9900 is a great device to kick start your BB addiction (and it will become an addiction). Tips, love bedside mode, using the shortcuts from the home screen, and delete all the apps you'll never use. There's a forum here with tips, faq, etc. Have fun.

Congratulations on your new BlackBerry! Lots of great help here in the forums. I would encourage you to read the articles in the "BlackBerry Help" section. There is also a section of the forum for newbies like yourself that can be helpful.
You will appreciate how easy it is to get things done on your Bold. It is a great device (almost as great as the Torch 9810), and it will help you be more productive if your life is about "action not distraction".

I list my most important customizations for you. You can find out how to do any of these on this site, or just ask in this thread and I, or someone else, will explain how to do them.
1) Enable either shortcuts or Speed Dials from the home screen. You will be able to assign applications or contacts to each key on the keyboard. Just press and hold the key and you will open the app or call the contact. I use it for contacts.
2) Set up bedside mode. Bedside mode allows you to change your ring profile during specific times and it dims but still allows you to see the clock on your phone. I use this to turn off all sounds except phone calls during from 10pm to 7am. I figure if anyone needs me between those hours, they should be calling me, otherwise it isn't important enough to wake me up.
3) Customize your sounds. I have text messages beep twice and emails beep once. This way I can still use my favorite ring for each one, but I can still decipher between emails (can wait to be read) and texts/bbms (more important, should be read asap). There are unlimited ways to do this so find the customization that fits you best.
4) Find and buy a LED customization program. I use BuzzMe, but there may be better ones out there. These will allow you to assign a different color Led flash for different types of messages. For me, Red=Texts, Orange=BBM, Green=Email, Blue=Facebook, etc.... You will learn to rely on your Led colors!
5) Delete/hide bloatware. A lot of the stuff "preinstalled" on your phone are just links to download said program. I created a folder called "Junk" and moved all these programs in there and then hid the "Junk" folder. All that crap is now out-of-sight and out-of-mind.
