There's a depressing saying that goes something like, "Everybody dies twice. The first time when you stop breathing, and the second time when somebody mentions your name for the last time."
In the case of the BlackBerry PlayBook, the first death came when BlackBerry made it clear they would not be delivering BlackBerry 10 to the tablet. The PlayBook is now (arguably) approaching its second death with word coming via BlackBerry's official Software Support Life Cycle site that shows April 2014 will mark the end of support for BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0.x and 2.1.x.

Hmmm....not like it wasn't expected. I have to admit that PlayBook OS has been treated like the forgotten middle child. And it is reaching end of life cycle, but that doesn't mean I will stop using mine.

That would require BBRY to have a sense of humor. Unless you count "new" Bolds as a joke.

Devastating news to those who, for whatever reason, didn't give up on the PlayBook a long time ago.

RIP Playbook. But, I still use it! I still like it! I tried an Ipad (given to me when I bought my new Cadillac), tried to like it over several months but NO FIN way! Dam you Thorstein and cronies that killed off Playbook!

I still use mine. It does what I need and not just games and other media.
So we won't get anymore updates. It will still be usable. It will just only remains as it is.

If they kill my Z10 off as quickly with support as they killed off the PlayBook then I will never buy another BlackBerry product ever again. Most companies support their products for a minimum of 6 years before they end any products life, but not BlackBerry it seems. They end support as soon as the d.a.m.n well please.

If they drop the Z10 they can go to hell! The PB should be getting security updates for years to come... maybe the hero worship of Chairman Chen will dampen down a bit now

Original IPhone got support until June last year when support for it was officially dropped. That near as d.a.m.n gave it six years of support.

i feel like chen is even more radical then thor was. this is -everything is discussed on hardwarelimits etc. - a bad decision. i will use my playbook as long as possible as a music player, for creating docs and excel sheets, e mail, calendar and websites (online calendar at work). thus said, quite a lot of use for my pb. thus said, i am not giving another cent to bbry. tim cook, take my money for my new tablet in a year or two.

The PB was a 'professional grade' tablet and therefore should be supported (at least with security updates) for much longer than consumer items like iPhones.
