is there any way to be able to get my bbm working if i unlock the phone .?? or whats the specifics on this??

im in ecuador and best way to talk to family is bbm because i can talk unlimited.. i could really use the help

If you unlock your phone, BBM won't stop working. Unlocking your phone just means you can use it on any carrier that supports the frequencies that your phone uses. All that is required for BBM is a BlackBerry data plan.

ok i ask because when i was in the usa they told me that when i unlock the phone that the internet will not work .. but i dont understand.. they said that i would have to change service books. that they werent too sure. the company is claro here in ecuador

Are you using Verizon? Also, does your phone use CDMA or GSM, I don't know if CDMA carriers allow you to unlock your phone or not.

the blackberry is brand new.. its 9930 verizon. dont know cdma gsm? how do i figure that out? the company here in ecuador is claro..

It looks like Claro uses GSM where as Verizon uses CDMA. Verizon devices are incompatible with Claro.

Actually the 9930 will work on claro as long as you unlock it as someone else told you. And as long as the PIN is not listed as lost or stolen (or owes money) then the internet will work. While the 9930 is a cdma phone it also has gsm for roaming for world travel. You just need to pay for an unlock code and then for sure it will work as a phone with your claro sim in it and it will work for data if you get a claro data plan and IF verizon did not block the PIN for either it being reported lost or stolen or for the customer owing them money.

I totally forgot that the Bold was a world phone. It should work then, as I believe that it supports Claro.
