Default Swapping to an 8830 World Edition

I am changing back to a Blackberry from a HTC Hero. The problem I have is that at the location I do business at the people are wishy-washy. I want to know ahead of time if Cell South has a policy where you have to turn in your old phone to activate another? I have gotten into this argument several times over the years. Is there a way I can activate a used phone without going to the store. I only lack a couple months from being eligible for an upgrade and I'm waiting to see what options Cell South comes out with during the holidays. Any help would be appreciated.

If you call their techincal support from a landline/other line and give them the ESN and stuff from the phone they should swap it out. There might be a small fee of $25 dollars (admin BS).

And you do not have to turn in an old phone.

When you signed the contract and got the Hero (Assumingly) you bought the phone, and have a service agreement with them. As long as the account is active they are happy. I have never heard of a company wanting a used phone back.

We ordered our phones online but picked up at the store. They said because of that we had to turn in our old phones.

I wonder if just told them that I lost the Hero if they would let it slide. Maybe come up wiith a story of lost it in the woods hunting or something. They might be a-holes and not clear the esn so I couldn't sell it.

If you order and ship online, you don't have to turn in old phones. If you order online and ship to store OR purchase from store you do have to trade it in. They used to give you an option to trade in (usually only takes off $20 or so), but not it's a requirement, I believe. If you want to keep your old device, definitely order online and ship to your house not the store.

Are you buying a new 8830 or you already have it? If you already have it then, you can do whatever you want with the Hero. The contract you signed is what they are concerned about. As long as your service is active regardless of the phone, they are happy.

I bought a used 8830 from a friend. If they give me a hard time I'll just do as normal and go above their heads.
