Default Netbook from Cellular South

I just saw a commercial for it. It said its $199.99 but I don't think it mentioned the monthly fee. Anybody hear how much?

I know most people have said they don't care about this but my puter is on its last leg. I've been looking at getting a netbook for the portability factor.

In the commercial they had testimonials. I didn't think it was out yet. I was in a store today and all they had was the display that they will go on up.

The terms are:

1. You MUST purchase separate data which will be billed like an additional line on your account.

2. You only have two options $39.99/month for 300MB OR $59.99 for 5GB of data transfer

3. Two year contract extension.

I was really excited until I called and found this out. Previously mentioned on the forums here, the specs that you get with CSouth can be purchased from Dell for $399. That being said, the price is really good, but the accommodating terms are not exactly peachy.

Carol...btw, I'm in the market for a new PC too and was holding out to see how they handled this. Guess I'm still in the market.

that's completely ridiculous, 300mb or 5gb? they're stealing $20 from everyone that signs up for this because there's obviously no point in getting a netbook if you've only got a 300mb plan. that is unless you never use it!

I'd rather get mine from dell and tether with the berry, although that net book itself is pretty sweet. If i didn't already have a Dell XPS 13.3 I'd pick one up at those prices.

I need to correct myself:

1. You MUST purchase separate data which will be billed like an additional line on your account.

2. You only have two options $39.99/month for 500 (not 300)MB OR $59.99 for 5GB of data transfer

3. Two year contract extension.

Found this out today.

4. There is no roaming limitations, BUT the 50% clause does apply. If you're not familiar 50% of your usage must be within the CSouth footprint.

I'm considering getting one but it's going to take a lot of thought. $60/month equates to over $700 a year. On top of that, there are not many places that I travel that doesn't have Wifi, so is it really worth it? On top of that, data has been so "iffy" over the last month, I'm not sure that now would be the time to buy one. Hmmmm

Default Thanks for the info

Im not so sure it is worth it then. I don't travel a lot but would like to have the option of a netbook to be able to take it with me. My laptop is old and weighs a ton. Never want to take it with me.

I guess I will keep looking at the netbooks and make up my mind.

You can buy the same netbook at walmart for $298. I bought one to carry to work and ended up taking it back and getting a normal dell notebook because battery life is horrable on these and the tend to freeze up because of heat the have no fan so the get pretty hot.

But if you just plan on surfing the net then they are good but not for the heavy user.

I wondered about the heat. So they don't have any fans?
