Default Cellular South Blackberry GPS

Does anyone know why it doesn't work? On bb maps it will search for like 10 minutes before it finds me.. is there anyway to fix this?

My pearl never got a sat. lock. I have a curve now and it will eventually get a lock but as you say it may take a while. One thing you can do is clear your cache and reset your downloaded data occasionally. While in bb maps hit menu>options>menu>clear cache, reset downloaded data. Also when in bb maps if the "find my location" command doesn't work, then try the "start gps navigation" command.

I ended up getting the freedom keychain gps. It works very well with my BlackBerry as well as my laptop.. I don't think it has anything to do with CS, because a lot of people have had issues with BlackBerry's gps

CellularSouth had the GPS disabled in the Curve. There are some instructions somewhere here on Crackberry Forums on how to unlock the GPS. I have done this myself, but it took almost all day to get it done. I ended up buying the Freedom Keychain GPS and just use it instead.

I never had to unlock the GPS on my curve or the 8830 WE that I had before the curve.

Doesn't work GREAT but it does work. Takes a little time to kick in - works great with google maps.

I did actually manage to get a lock and keep one.. It takes awhile but it works fine after it finally finds the satellites.. I would like to use another gps app though that will give me voice turn by turn directions.. Does anyone know of any free ones? I tried using Nav4All but it doesn't work very well..

This is not correct, Cellular South has never disabled gps on any of the blackberry's, Verizon on the other hand has, but as far as I know, even they have since unlocked it. As far at the time it takes to acquire a signal, agreed it does take some time, and often several attempts. I'm hoping this problem will be better with newer phones that will be equipped with A-GPS instead of just standard GPS, regular gps has to find the satellites in the sky, and determine your location, this process can take anywhere from 1-5 mins in my experience. A-GPS uses the cellphone towers to pinpoint a general location and then tells the phone a general location to start pinpointing exact coordinates giving the phone the ability to acquire a lock faster. . A-GPS should acquire a lock within 30 seconds or less. A-GPS will be on the Tour.
