Default Can the Storm work on Cellular South

I would like to know, if I purchased a Storm (unlocked of course), would it work on Cellular South?

I know that Verizon is CDMA and Cellular South is CDMA, so they are similar networks.

Some companies mention that other network phones (the Storm) will not link up on another network (Celuular South).

So, again, my question is, will the Storm work on the CS network?

Seems like it should, being a similiar network. If it does I'm doin the same thing. I'm sure CS will have some kind of excuse.

It would be very tempting to get a Storm if it did work. Is anyone out there doing this now?

The answer is No, UNLESS someone from within CSouth personally (manually) activates it for you, which I would not recommend because that opens up a whole other arena of problems. Many have talked about PIN changing or masking, but in my opinion by the time one goes through all of that, they could have easily just waited. Pretty much - CDMA devices are PIN & carrier specific, which is why most of the "unlocking" principals only work on GSM networks/devices.

Does the storm require a sim card? Doesn't CS require a sim card on the 8830 World Edition phone?

I would not risk the money. I know from experience, I purchased a phone that was unlocked and cellular south said. It was NOT in their data base so they could not connect the phone. You might not like the storm as much as you think you will. Play with someone elses phone before making a decision. You will miss those push buttons.

it does not. only the GSM (9500) requires a sim. however, CDMA World Phones, (Bold, 8830, etc) CAN use a sim card mainly for international travel.

I had seen where you could activate a sim card but didn't really know to what extent it could be used. Thanks

I know the feeling I played around with my bestie storm. It doesn't react as quickly as push buttons.

It is Cellular South's policy to not activate any other carrier's phone on their network, even if it's another CDMA provider. A long long time ago they would do this for you but not anymore. It causes internal network issues for Cellular South and the user of the phone.

Well I know for a fact that this policy is pretty much on a store by store basis. I have 2 friends who ordered unlocked Storms. One went to CS store in Cleveland and they activated it with no hassle. The only thing they asked was where they had obtained it. The other friend went to the CS store in Greenville and they apparently spit out the same policy you stated. So, he went to the other store and boom, Storm activated. I was thinking about doing the same but unlocked Storms cost a pretty penny
