3G or 1XEV National Coverage

Is 3G Data or 1XEV available outside of Cellular Souths primary area? I have excellent coverage where I live but when I travel out of the state my Blackberry goes to 1X. I recently went to New Orleans, Birmingham, and Dallas. According to the national 3G Data map on the Cellular South web site I should have 3G/1XEV but I did not. Any ideas of what's up with this? I have gotten 2 different answers from Cellular South. In a store they said NO. On the phone they said my indicator would say 1X but I acutually had 1XEV. I know I did not have 1XEV based on the response of my Blackberry in those areas.

Yes, you should get 1XEV data in New Orleans, Birmingham and Dallas. Yes, you can get 1XEV data outside of the Cell South area (depending on where you are at).

I had the same problem with my first BlackBerry on Cell South. It took about 10 calls to tech support to get someone that could correct it.

What worked for me was to call them while roaming (in New Orleans actually). Took about 30 minutes and then a phone reset but it was fixed. Had something to do with roaming settings or something like that.

What phone are you using? Have you upgraded the OS?

I think I figured this out or at least last week I had 1XEV throughout Alabama and Georgia (went to Atlanta). I made a configuration change by going to Options/Mobile Network/ and changing Network Technology from Global to 1XEV. That is all I've done and as I said I did get 1XEV where I did not before. I am using OS 5.0.0.810. Anyone know if Cellular South will have OS6 available for my 9650??

CSouth hasn't officially released 6, but the .431 Sprint release works just fine.
