Default Redirecting Large Sized Emails

Morning All,

I work for a large corporation in the defence industry so bear in mind my computer and blackberry is unable to be altered. I.e. I can’t download applications or third party software to my laptop or my BB.

Also my email inbox is limited to a certain size. So when I’m away from work and away from the secure networks, people still send me emails which I get through on my blackberry.

Now people (for some reason) LOVE to send ridiculously huge emails to me…I don’t know why…It doesn’t matter how many times I tell them, they still send me large emails.

So when they do send those emails my inbox can go over it’s limit really very quickly. When it does, it obviously stops sending emails to my BB.

Are there any clever ways to stop emails of say, over 2MB reaching my BB? Is there a rule in outlook I could use? (bear in mind that sometimes my laptop won’t be on and my outlook won’t be open). Is there a trick on the BB to stop it happening?

I can’t change anything server side, and neither will our I.T. people

Any help would be brill but I get the feeling this might be one of those questions where I’m asking far too much but if you don’t ask you don’t get!

Cheers

To be honest I think you are asking the wrong question!

From your description, the problem is that when your work mailbox gets filled up, you stop receiving messages to the Blackberry. To resolve this, you would need to find a way to stop your work email filling up.

As an aside, the Blackberry only receives the first 2K of each message (with no attachments). When you read through the message, the "automore" goes and gets the next 2K, etc. A similar process happens when you open an attachment, the device requests the attachment at the point, before then, it is not on the device.

OK, I can see what you mean.

So is there a simple outlook rule that could work to reduce the size of my main inbox when i'm not logged into my outlook so as not to bung it up and not allow emails to get to my BB?

I've had thoughts over simple rules to move mail from my inbox to a personal folder on my server space...but apparantly that is a client side operation and won't work when my laptop is off? Or does it work differently with the BB?

Moving the large messages is a possibility - the BB has no impact on whether that would work or not. Think of BES more as a system that monitors your mailbox and syncs stuff down the phone.
If you had a rule that automatically moved messages out of your inbox then the BES might not spot that and the mail wouldnt be synced to your BB.

And you are right....moving messages to an external PST file would be a client operation and only work while you are logged into Outlook and connected to Exchange.

Is there a way you can re-educate those who send you these very large file to transfer the data to you in a different way.
