Cool NO BES for YOU. The soup nazi said...help

I am quickly converting PocketPC users to BB at my company. PocketPC is the corp standard, but too unstable for many of us. Short of the CEO authorizing BES (and the cost), I understand there is some ES setting that will allow BB to sync wirelessly??? We are all using BB Internet for push corp mail, but need calendar, contacts and the like. If so, I will lobby the CIO to turn on this feature. Any assistance is GREALY appreciated by 32 new BB lovers...thank you

You need a BES on top of the Exchange server for calendar, contacts, tasks, etc.

OK, here is the question, you can all flame me if you want, but I think this would be good BB business sense. Why does Blackberry charge so much for the BES application? You would think that they could sell it for alot cheaper and have more companies buying Blackberries for their employees. I know the company I work for would have no problem buying the BES software licenses if it was in the 100's instead of the 1000's. I'm sure this topic has been hashed out before, but it just seems that since Microsoft pretty much has the corner on the Exchange, Networking, etc. that Blackberry could stand to lose a little money to gain a bigger share of the market to get a lot more money.

Well, if you're running MS exchange or lotus domino, then you can go with BES PRO, which is only $500 (includes 5 users) or $849 (includes 10 users).

At our work (we're running groupwise) we have the free version of BES that includes 5 licences. Extra licenses are about $100 each.

The company I work for has upwards of 500 employees, about 300 of those would probably use the service. Therefore it would be in the thousands of dollars. If it were cheaper, I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem buying BES.

perhaps if you could show them an evaluation and show them what the return on investment would be. ie; productivity vs cost they may be persuaded

As far as Business systems go, BES is fairly inexpensive.
