Default Contacts on phone are GMail, not importing/synching with Desktop address book

I have a user that brought in her BlackBerry Bold for Enterprise Activation. Her bold has all her GMail accounts/contacts. When I activated it on the Enterprise, none of her contacts went over to her newly created enterprise address book. She wants her all her contacts backed up on her enterprise address book. Is there a clean way to copy over the Google contacts over to her enterprise/desktop contacts and not have it create duplicate entries on her phone?

Just export the Gmail contacts to a csv file (can be done from Gmail on the computer). Then clear out the contact database on the phone (using Desktop Manager). After that you can import that file to the enterprise address book and sync with the phone.

Here's the other thing...we are using GroupWise so the data field mappings may be different from GMail...may have to hack away at the CSV file to get it just right...

Do I need to change anything under Default Services? I think the Contacts SYNC is currently set to gmail...

I'm sorry but I have zero idea of the BES side of things. My post above is just what I would try to get the contacts into your enterprise system.

I think the issue you're having is that your users gmail contacts are associated her gmail address. That her contact list is in the "gmail addressbook"and not the "default"one. I'm sure you're enterprise system only recogizes the dafult addressbook to sync to.

I would turn the syncing off for her gmail. The best way I know to do that is by unchecking the box in the Email Setup where the gmail account was created on her phone. I believe the syncing can be turned on again, and will work, once you have everything set up on your side.

As for the different data fields being screwed up because of the gmail incompatiblity, that's your call. It might just be easier to just fix things once all the data is imported to her phone.

I hope this helps you some, I'm sure someone will come by here who knows more about how BES works.
