Default Company blocking emails with 3GP/mov attachments

I have a personal Blackberry Bold through Verizon that is connected to my company's Enterprise server so I can get my work email on my personal BBY.

When I try to send a video I took on my BBY as an email attachment (too big of a file for MMS), the recipient receives an email with a message that says "File(s) listed below have been deleted due to security risks."

I'm sure my company has blocked based on the file extension. Is there a way for me to send my video files using my gmail account instead of my default work email to bypass this block?

I currently only access my gmail account through the gmail icon, my gmail emails are not mixed in with my work emails in the general in-box.

No problems with photos as attachments, only videos. Thanks for any suggestions, this is driving me crazy since it is my personal BBY but I'm stuck to the restrictions my company has put in place.

I have no idea how the Gmail App works, can you not attach files to it?

Anyway, you can add your gmail account to your phone, and then just use the separate icon that it will create. If you want to keep your gmail account out of the main message folder you can adjust that.

OS 5: Messages> Menu Button> Options> Inbox Settings, then just uncheck the gmail account.
OS 6: Messages> Menu Button> Options> Inbox Management, then just uncheck the gmail account.

Other than that the only thing you can do is take your personal phone off your work emails.

When you compose the email message at the top of it, there is a drop down box that will tell you what service you are using to send your emails. Just click on that and change it to gmail to send the messages out over the gmail account.

Perhaps I should clarify a few more items.

I ALREADY have the Gmail icon on my BBY to access my gmail account.

NO, the gmail app does not allow you to have attachments (unless someone knows something I don't--it is not listed in the menu options).

When I click on "create email" from within my general mail box, it automatically defaults to the Enterprise email through my work server--there is no option to choose gmail (probably because I only access gmail through the gmail app icon).

I have to be able to view my work emails on my BBY due to my profession.

Any other ideas?

Please clarify more...

So you do or don't have your gmail account registered on your phone (not the gmail app that you get from Google)?

You won't be able to send anything from your gmail account if it isn't registered on your phone. It needs to be setup through your "Email Settings" icon (OS 5) or the "Setup" icon (OS 6).

If you need to have your work emails sent to your phone this is the only way to do it, unless you ask your work to remove that restriction (which they most likely won't)

Ok, so the light bulb just clicked on. I went in and added my gmail through the add email setup area. Now I do have the drop down when I want to send a video file.

I just sent a test video to see what happens. I guess I had not tried to setup my gmail on this BBY through the email setup area. My previous BBY mixed all incoming email together in the same in-box so I assumed that this BBY would do the same. Obviously a better Operating System has fixed this and I was not aware.

The test was successful! Thanks so much!

You can still have all your emails (work and gmail) go into your main message folder. As you said, you don't want that though. Following the instructions in my first post of this thread will keep your gmail account out of your main message folder, so it's just your work emails and any other messages you have. As I'm sure you've noticed you have an icon for your gmail account, just go there for all gmail related uses.

That gmail app from Google is probably not even needed anymore after doing this, unless you need access to past emails and/or labels. Because you will only be able to access emails from here on out in your gmail account.

Norm, this is an IT Policy security issue. Companies would be liable for illegal things (i.e. kiddie porn for ex.) being sent through your phone. Your work BES admin has disabled your ability to send video files via your Blackberry. Yes, it is your BB, but connected to your company BES, they now, in effect own the phone. I'm in the same boat.

If you remove the IT Policy (search out here, there is a process) it would do that, BUT...as soon as syncronization is finished, the IT Policy will be back. It part of the BES sync.

The only way is to get your device off your company's BES and have the administrator send a default policy without the security items. They probably also have password enabled, and the option to change it is greyed out, right? That also is part of their policy. Of course if you do that, you can't get your company email through BES unless you get a second BB.

You kind of stuck unless you want to do that.

And REMEMBER to make sure YOUR blackberry is removed from your company's BES beforehand if/when you ever leave for whatever reason. Trying to do it afterwards is a pain. You no longer work there, they don't really care, mostly.
