| | Can you unlock a business blackberry 8820?
I have a 8820 from work. Its already restricted in a lot of ways being a official blackberry. Is there a way to unlock this instrument or can you not unlock a business or enterprise blackberry ?
If you can what is a trusted and cheap way to get this done?
Thanks

Unlocking usually refers to being able to use your device with a different carrier. But what I think you mean is that you have an IT policy that is restricting certain functions of the phone, and that there is no way around. If you attempt to remove it, it will get pushed right back down to your phone and you could be jeopardizing your job by tampering with company equipment. The best advise would be to purchase your own device for personal use, then you can do anything you want with it.

No. I could leave the IT policy on without really worrying about it too much. I understand that trying to get around those IT policies will not work.
All I want is to be able to use the same instrument overseas as a phone.
Will this work?
Thanks

Ya that shouldnt be a problem. If you want to get your email and such overseas you'll just need to make sure you get a BES data plan wherever you are.

So what is the cheapest and most reliable way to get the phone unlocked? I called AT&T and they wanted to check with my IT dept. before unlocking it so that will not work
Thanks

You can't keep your IT dept from knowing what you're doing. If IT won't agree to you unlocking your device, then there's no point in it. You won't be able to get your email because they can simply shut off your device.

I don't need my office email on my blackberry when I am traveling overseas. I always have my laptop.
Also, if I get a new office blackberry(newer model) and can keep this one can I then get this unlocked? It will be inactive for office purposes.
I just need a phone overseas for local use in the country so I don't have to buy an expensive phone there.
Thanks

If you get a new device and your company lets you keep your old one, then you can get it unlocked with no problem. There are several reputable unlocking companies in the Unlocking Forum. Compare prices and beware of "Satisfied Customer" endorsements, especially if they sound vaguely spammy. Many are bogus.

Yes I can keep the old one and will try to get the old one(not new) unlocked. If I get it unlocked I guess my companies IT policy restrictions on the device will still be there on the old device even though it will be unlocked. Correct?

Unlocking the phone won't remove the IT Policy restrictions. But either you or your IT dept can remove them, once the phone is no longer in use on the company's Enterprise. The easiest solution (for you) is for the IT dept to do it. But if they won't, you can, following this procedure, created by Forums Moderator Pete6: Removing an IT Policy from a BlackBerry phone

again... only mess with the "old" phone once your company has activated your new device. And I agree with Jeff, the best way would be for your IT department to remove its policies from your phone and restore it to factory settings. From there you can unlock it and use it for your personal device |

Thanks | It can still be unlocked. Shouldn't have any issues at all. Let us know if you need any additional help.

I have a new device so can use the existing one for personal use. My company however will not remove the policies.
Also since this phone is inactive now I get a 'SIM Card Rejected' so when I try to dial *#06# it does not do anything.
How will this work?

Thanks | There's nothing in the IT Policy removal procedure about dialing *#06#. Were you able to remove the IT Policy? Beyond that I probably can't help you.
