Default blackberry professional software express

I am currently using a Treo 700w and I am thinking about making the switch, but I am not all that tech savvy. My company uses a Micrsoft Exchange server. With my Treo, I am able to snyc Contact, Calander , etc changes without having to put the device in a cradle, which is very important to me.

My IT dept has a version of BES on the server that I am told is several generations old. Since there aren't too many BB users in the company, the BES software was never upgraded to a version that allows for wireless snync. I have been told that the only way to get these changes synced is via the BB cradle and obviously doesn't provide a real time sync.

I understand that blackberry professional software express will allow a single licensed user to be able to sync wirelessly. My questions are as follows:

Does the Express software have to be installed on the server or can it go onto a PC and function the same way it would on the server?

Can the Express version go on the server without interfering the previous version being used by the rest of the company?

Is there anyway to get wirelss sync from a pc?

Any info can provide is greatly appreciated.
