More than likely your IT department disabled it.

You can remove the IT policy but I will not be held liable if you get canned!

I'm actually already off the policy, but I read somewhere that if you are on a BES server, unless you make some adjustment on the server software, you can only use Pin to Pin within company. Interestingly, I can receive BBM msgs from other users outside my company, but I can't send to them

I definitely think its the way the policy was setup on your BES server, to receive pin messages from outside. By the way what error do you get if any when you try to send a pin message outside the company?

i dont get any error message - I actually get a "D" on my BBM message, but it never turns to an "R" to signify that it was read. does anyone know what changes can be made to the IT policy or on the BES server to allow msgs to be sent? I can ask the IT guy to do it (as long as it doesnt compromise security..................)

Sounds like an issue with the BES' peer to peer encryption key. You'll need to ask the IT guy to remove the key, but this will affect all users on the BES.
