Default BlackBerry activated with Previous Employer Needs to be Activated

If a user brings their BES-activated phone over from their previous employer and they want to activate it with our server, does the device need to be wiped? Thanks!

Main thing that needs to be done is remove the IT policy from the phone. I would recommend wiping it as well. But wiping the phone will not delete the IT policy on the phone.

Will it work without wiping the device?

Not exactly sure you can try it. I've always wiped the device

Yes, have the BES admin at your old company change the IT Policy to default and unregister it from their server (in THAT order). There is a way to remove the policy as noted, but if it's not unregisterd from the old company's server, you won't be able to get it on the new company BES server. It will restore the policy from your old company when you re-sync and activate. You can check if it's done by checking the Password option. Is it enabled and grayed out or can you change it to disabled? If grayed out, previous company's IT policy is in effect. (most companies require password to be enabled)

I would just let your old company BES admin do the work. After its unregistered from previous and has default IT policy, go to BES admin with new company and register it and re-sync to the new server. You will get a new IT Policy from the new company which will have their security requirements for your device.

Should be good to go then.

I personally think wiping the device is a waste of time. But your old company may do it automatically OTA for security reasons (most won't), so make sure you backup everything before you contact them. But as a courtesy to your old company, you should permanently delete anything that could be seen as propriatary to them.
