Default Blackberries and non-Windows servers?

Can a small business running normal BSD/Linux servers use Blackberry mobile phones in a standard fashion for group services like calendar, lists, files, emails, etc...?

There seems to be a dependence of BES on Windows software and hardware. It makes no sense to purchase and support a Windows server for a few mobile phones and passing internal data via third parties is not an option unless secure. Is there a reliable unix server based alternative to BES?

Do we know if the QNX based phones will support non-Windows server software when launched early next year?
