Default BIS without OWA

So this may have been discussed previously, but I looked and can't find it. I am curious if you can have a BB retrieve and sync messages via BIS from exchange without OWA access? In the environment I am dealing with, iPhone syncs no problem. I assumed if an iPhone can get the mail then there must be a way to have BB traverse a similar path to get mail to that device as well without having to go on BES. Any thoughts?

I have tried to do this, but it is blocked by my employer. Hope it works for you.

Yeah that's a link for connecting BIS WITH OWA. I need to understand how to do it without OWA and use the same mechanism that is allowing iPhone users to get access

thanks though.

The blackberry way to get exchange mail is BES, BES express, or OWA. The first requires more expensive data plan the next two only require BIS. The problem is all three require assistance from your IT department. There is two 3rd party email programs that work with BBs. One is Astrasync and the other is Notifysync.. There is a fee for both. I believe Astrasync is $49.00 and notifysync is $120.00. Both have free trials to make sure they work with your system. The program used by iPhone and android is activesync. BBs can not use this. Their solution is BES express it is free for you and your employer. This is what I use and it works great. My best advice is real politely approach your IT person and see what they will do for you.

Is there no web-based email, like gmail that can sync to activesync? So the same way you can add other accounts to your gmail which sync fine with your BB...
It would be like some sort of bridge...
