Default BESX web browsing question

This has been bugging me for a while now, hopefully someone here can clarify what's happening: I recently switched carriers. I went from an Alltel Blackberry Curve 8330 to an ATT BB Torch 9800. I have a Blackberry Enterprise Server Express installed on my Exchange 2003 server. With my old blackberry, all browsing ran through BESX which was nice because I was able to set up protection profiles on our UTM for the blackberries. I've never had an issue with that setup. When I got my new phone from ATT, I removed my old BESX account and created a new one for my Torch and sent the Enterprise activation which went well with no problems. Everything works as it should except for 1 thing: The internet browsing is not running though our network anymore, my phone gets an IP from the carrier which totally bypasses our UTM. My understanding was the default configuration on all blackberries using BESx was to use the office intranet, not the carriers public internet. Is there any way to check the phone and force it to use the BESx instead of the carrier?

I just figured it out. What I'm trying to do is force browsing through MDS. The way to force it is with a browser policy. Unfortunatly BESx 5.0.4.1 and possibly all besx does not allow browser configuration policies. You need full BES for that. The reason it worked on my old phone is because the older device os defaulted to the MDS service for browsing, the new phone's browser is automatic and has no configuration options on the user end for this. The good news is that it will STILL use MDS to access the internal network securely. I guess that's acceptable. I'm not happy that I can't use my UTM to protect device browsing anymore though (unless the users get old phones). Guess I have to upgrade to BES.

I'm not sure about all internet browsing but I recently setup the ability to browse intranet sites from the device. If that is what you're looking for I can send you a link on how to configure it.

Find someone with a full BES server, make a new policy for what you need and export it. Then import it into your BESX server...
