Default BES Questions

I have had an 8530 for about a year now...so I'm not a total BB newbie. My work is saying though that they're probably going to put me onto their BES server. I have a general idea of what that means, but was wondering if somebody could tell me what differences I should expect to see once that happens. Also, they said that my carrier (Sprint) may actually charge me more for my play (unlimited data etc.) if they find out. Is that true, and if so...why? Thanks for any advice!

Sounds like the phone belongs to you. If it's yours, you probably wouldn't want to do it; you'll lose privacy on the company's BES policy (the IT personnel will be able to read your emails, monitor other things, etc.), and some things might not work any more, depending on what restrictions are in place. I wouldn't put my personal BlackBerry on a company's BES. If the company deems it important enough for you to be on its BES, it should provide you with a company BlackBerry -- for company business.

I agree with Tonis. If the're are going to put you on the BES, make sure they provide you a device as well.

If your company will not buy you a phone. The other option is to ask IT to install BES express. It is free for IT can run along side BES and in some carriers there is no additional BES charge. The program was designed by Rim for people who own there own BB and want corporate email. BESX will keep your personal info and your work info separate. BESX will do push email, contact look up, and calendar from your corporate server.
It's worth a try.

Don't do it, if they need you to receive emails on the go then get them to give you a work blackberry.
I use blackberry express at work and it doesn't keep everything separate, it keeps things as separate as the full blown BES.

Thanks for the advice guys. In a strange turn of events, I ended up getting a promotion and they now give me money each month to cover my phone bill. I'm still not on our BES, but I'll deal with emails taking 15 minutes or so to get to me sometimes if it's free.

Can you guys clarify exactly what else is visible to IT on BES?

Internet browsing?
BBM?
Apps downloaded
App use?

Thanks

My Co just stopped supporting BIS and wants us on BES or Droid/Iphone...

hi, in the BES environment, the IT team governs the usage of the device via the IT policies that are enforced upon the device while activation, Yes, they can view your e-mails (but they usually don't). They govern which websites would open up on your device and which won't, they govern if you can use third party application or not. Basically they restrict data access in the device.
