Default BES IT Policy question..

Hey guys, Newbie here!

Ive had a blackberry for years and just recently came across the site and am looking for help.

This new company I'm with uses the BES and I've never experienced it before..

Heres my issues:

Most of the blackberry's are handed out by the company, and thus they block a few things. My blackberry(8320) is actually my personal one im trying to use for work and personal.

After syncing up with the BES I'm unable to do a few things..

1. Now unable to send mail VIA my gmail account
2. Unable to send MMS Msgs

The send feature for my personal mail isn't even available, and when i send an MMS msg i get an error each time.

Now, looking in my service book i saw two service books that were not checked, but instead had a circle with a line through it next to it.

<username>@gmail.com [CMIME]
WIFI TCP/IP Transport [WPTCP]
IPPP for BIBS [IPPP]
MMS Config [WAP]

The first and last are obviously my main concern on this..After calling RIM, i noticed that they said disallowed on it, They informed me this was due to a IT Policy issue in place blocking it..

So, looking at this, is there any way to bypass that at all? I'd like to use my personal e-mail account and my MMS on the same phone that i get my corporate e-mail on. But not sure if i can bypass it..i call the Global IT Company..but they are so big that none of them know enough about any issues, only a little about each. So it was basically wasting my time asking them about it. I'm looking for your help! Sorry for the long message!

PS: I can send/receive just fine on my corporate mail;i can receive on my personal, just not send.

Once you sign up using BES, you are at the mercy of the IT God ( or Demon ) at your company.

You lost your right to make any modification, even to your personal BB.

The only way is to get those rights back is to go back to BIS

You can buy a 3rd party app called BES Mailbox from empower that will put all your corporate email into a seperate folder. The default on BES is to put it in the messages folder.

True... but this user appears to have a restrictive IT Policy.
The policy in place is likely to prevent the installation of third-party applications.

Worth a shot, I suppose.

You could dump the BES and go to BIS and forward your work email to your bb. You would get your work email, but your response would come from your personal account.

Talking Seprate Email icons

TO Setup a BES Email icon on the hand Held

Step1. Back up the BlackBerry Configuration Database. For instructions, see KB10292. (Rim.com)

Step2. On the computer hosting the BlackBerry Configuration Database, open a Command Prompt window, and type OSQL -E -S servername\instancename, where servername is the name of the server hosting the database and instancename is the name of the Microsoft SQL Server instance. If you are not using a Microsoft SQL Server instance, you can skip the -S parameter.

Step3.
Type the following OSQL commands:

1> use <BESMgmt>

2> go

1> UPDATE ServerConfig SET BESOnlyMessages = 1
2> go
d. Exit
e. Exit
f. Resend All Service books for all users.

there are alot of different ways to setup a BES so we may have to change the commands to fit your needs, but try this first.

Unless you absolutely need to keep your contact's, calender, tasks & memos "wirelessly" and immediately up to date, i say switch back to BIS and add that email as another email address. I too have 2 email accounts that are accessed through OWA and each one has its difficulties setting up. But i had to keep my berry sync'd everyday so to keep up to date with my appt's and contacts... so i made the switch to BES and was able to hold on to my personal emails acct's, the one thing i no longer have (i think) is access to Facebook which is no bid deal for me.

I wish this (simple) solution worked for BPS too.
