Default Bluetooth stereo audio has become unlistenable

Out of the blue my Tour's audio over Bluetooth sounds awful.

It used to play my music via my Motorola S9 headset and my car's Pioneer Bluetooth stereo receiver just fine but then *poof* it suddenly sounds terrible and is simply unlistenable.
In case it matters: my OS is the latest release and I'm on Verizon Wireless.

I saw a thread/reply on a Bold thread about a particular download (an alternate Bluetooth driver I guess) but I figured that I'd put this thread here in the Tour section in case it makes a difference.

I've tried adjusting the volume on both the Tour and the car stereo/headphones but it makes no difference: you just get loud vs. soft crap audio playback.

Thanks in advance for help with this.
It's a real pain in the a** since my audio world is centered around my Bluetooth playback device (used to be my LG Dare, now it's my Tour) and my boombox, car stereo and headphones aren't worth much without it.
