    after reboot will last for one text then stops working. Rebooted several times, tried to update OS, get "latest version already installed", however it's not the most recent update.

    email, internet still works,
    please advise

    Ask your carrier if there is a messaging center number. Most likely that has changed. Ask them for another number

    Question to OP:
    What is your pre-phone? You might need to contact ATT rep online or call to provide them your information so they can update it on your account.

    It is weird, but i had to do this because i wasn't getting any mms after a new micro sim.

    My previous phone is a BB Torch.. still works great with ATT.. The Z30 worked fine, then suddenly when I made a call the receiver could not hear me... no matter what I did. Then within a day or so, I noticed I was no longer getting texts or calls.

    Go to text messaging settings and then click on advanced.

    Basically it is a number defined by the carrier through which all text messages will be sent

    This makes no sense. I doubt very much AT&T changed their message center number.

    Sounds like OP has a faulty device. Return and exchange.

    Also make sure you're not on an old BIS plan with AT&T (you mentioned old BlackBerry device). This can mess up your connectivity with modern devices like bb10 and non-bb.

    Check the mmsc settings
