I'm about to pull the trigger on purchasing a used Z30 from someone whom upgraded to a Passport. In Canadian dollars, we're talking $300 for the Z30 used, where if you're lucky and the coupon code worked, it's just over $500 for a brand new Passport.

I'm having second thoughts given that the delta is only $200 and change. I have previously used the Z30 so I know what it's about.

My question to the forum: why choose the Z30 and $200 over the passport? Other then a slight savings, is there any reasons to? I'm struggling to find some!

It all depends. Do you want a 5" rectangle with no pkb screen or a 4.5" square pkb screen?

Interesting, fairly recently, I sold my pristine condition Z30 to a workmate for $300, after I upgraded to a Passport.

For him, the PP was simply "too big", and he didn't want to part with the extra cash required for a PP. He upgraded from a Z10, and needless to say, absolutely loves the extra screen real estate and features of the Z30 over his old Z10 (bigger screen, FM radio, better battery life, less plasticky than the Z10).

For "me", after being spoiled by the PP, I don't think I can ever go back to a narrow screen again.

I just upgraded to a brand new Z30. I have buddies that work for BlackBerry so I got a fantastic deal on the unit.

Upgraded from a Z10 and man this phone is sweet and worth every penny! I also played around with the Passport prior to it being available to consumers and although the phone is phenomenal in almost every aspect, size, cost (even at a $200+ difference) and screen real estate where a huge factor for me.

I also made my choice to go to the Z30 through the following thought process. I still have about a year contract left with my carrier on the Z10. I figured, if I have a great deal on a Z30, I'll buy that outright and use it till my initial carrier contact ends. Then at that time, I'll just upgrade with a carrier credit to a successor. Made moving to the Z30 that much more appealing.

I do like the 16 x 9 screen configuration of the Z30 over the 1:1 of the passport. One huge negative for me on the Z30 is the resolution, as the passport has a much higher pixel density and looks much better.

In the end it's a tough call. I'll probably get the cheaper Z30 and wait a year or so for the Passport pricing to come down.

I thought that the Z30 resolution was going to be mediocre compared to my Z10 and after reading different posts on CB about it not being bright or as crisp as the Z10's LCD.

But to be honest, I prefer the super amoled display vs. The LCD. It just reproduces black levels so much better and to be the colors just look better represented.

For sure will worth every dollar!
When Z30 was just born didn't impressed me because the screen bigger than 4.5 inches pushed me to the portability boundary and frustrates me.
Tried once, again, but just in shops not in real life and in the beginning I decided to not go forward. But after few months I've understand that this piece of great hardware is really awesome! After 2 month of day by day use I can say:
    - it waits thrilled to have 10.3.1...
    - it's snappy and fast processing in tasks
    - the keyboard is a few steps above Z10
    - the screen is not so low bright as many uses said
    - it is not so big as I thought....
    Go forward and take it!

After trying the Passport I suggest that anyone considering a Z30 at least give the Passport a test drive first. What a phone that is!

Just upgraded to a Z30 myself. I'm on VZW, so upgrading to a Passport was a moot point. So figured I would buy the Z30 now (got one for $275) and sell my old Z10 and 9930 to justify the cost. I still have an upgrade that I can use on the next BB10 device that VZW supports (hopefully!!). At that point, I will sell my Z30. I don't like wasting a lot of money on phones anymore, but the Z10 battery life was becoming a headache. Unreal to have a 1+ day battery life.

I passed on the Passport, just got the Z30 from Rogers. Coming from a Bold 9900, I'd say the Z30 is pretty awesome. I understand the specs are a bit outdated, but I wouldn't know, it's pretty darn fast in my opinion. The camera could of been better, but again it doesn't really apply to me. For myself it was worth it because there was no up front cost, and it's the best phone I ever owned thus far.

I love my Z30. The Passport us great too, but a bit big for me.

Telus Canada via BestBuy.ca is offering the BlackBerry Passport for $199 on 24 month plan, and the Z30 for $0 on 24 month plan.

Well, I finally found a good used Z30 today and I'm loving it! Purchased it off of a guy who upgraded to a Passport. I took a loss on the sale of my Q10, but I would say he took an even bigger loss on the sale of his Z30!!

I tried out his passport, but honestly I prefer the shape and size of the Z30. The passport felt awkward, though the screen was amazing.

In the end, we both got what we wanted out of the deal

Not sure that the price will come down like it did for the Z/Q10s. There won't be any inventory write downs with the way they're managing supply and demand for the Passport.

After using the Z30 for a week now, I wonder why anyone won't like this phone. Blackberry's OS as far as I can see is superior to that of iOS. The Z30 I would imagine is good enough to last me two years, in which I hope they will come out with a Z50, or something to that extent.

Agreed. I'd take this over a passport, even if the price were equal. It's that good.

Sadly, due to a lack of marketing this phone was doomed to failure from the beginning. Not sure we'll ever see a Z50, but here's hoping we will!
