Got my new Z30 yesterday and I love it! The construction quality feels fantastic! What really disappoints me is the screen.. Low resolution and very low light compared with my z10. If BlackBerry really want to be no.1 in the marked with new devices they can't doing it like this. It's no space for compromises..

The Z30 has an AMOLED screen so it won't do good in low light

Exactly Amoled sucks in daylight,the Z10 screen is much better

Can you pls share what level is the brightness setting on your Z30 vs. Z10?

Have you used a q10? i'm curious as to whether the z30 screen is better looking than the q10's screen. Compared to the z10, the q10s screen looks like absolute garbage imo, to the point that I very rarely use my q10.

Screenshots won't do, because they don't resamble the brightness setting.


Back to the problem:
As already stated, the Z30 uses BlackBerries SuperAMOLED technology, which was introduced with the Q10. The QWERTY device already got both bad press and bad comments regarding the maximum brightness the screen can achieve. To make things worse for BBRY, that fault can't even, unlike many CB members are stating here, blamed on the AMOLED technology itself. Both Samsung and Nokia are offering AMOLED solutions with decent brightnesses and readability under bright sunlight conditions.
Nokia even introduced decent AMOLED powered screens three years ago, which put BBRY 2013 SuperAMOLED screens to shame. I don't know whether BlackBerry introduced some software related barrier, limiting the maximum birghtness or if it is indeed hardware related. In any case, this issue can't be blamed on AMOLED in general.

It is better. It has more sub pixels per pixels. What the q10 uses is a called a pentile display which is a low quality amoled layout. The q10 looks grainy compared to Z30.

I wanted to so much to buy the Z30 today.
I went to the shop and they had no display unit so I took the decision and just before paying for it, they guy at the store opened a phone package to show the display unit that suddenly appeared and I was shocked. Same word you said about the Q10 screen.
It's garbage compared to Z10 and iPhone.
Z10/IPhone6 user
Ps: My Z10 screen compete with that on the iPhone.

Well, it is Amoled. The point of it is not exactly to look the best, but to be the lost efficient.
It's a total eyesore in the dark, but at least it's the reason my phone can make it 'till dark without dying haha.

Sure a good point to have a good battery that lasts a full day, Z10 can never do that.
But I am not sure if some units are different than the others or what.
I see videos on you tube with good screens.
The one I saw yesterday shows all white color as yellow.
I hope not all the Z30 are like that because I prefer it than the leap.

Well about showing white as yellow, we can do that by changing how warm the screen is.

I did put it to get maximum and compared to the Z10 if was dim bad and washed colors.

I have the opposite opinion. I find the Z30 to be much more appealing. The LCD on the Z10 has too high of a contrast ratio, the moment you go over half brightness all the colors get washed out. And man is it bright as hell at night in a dark room, blinding.

The Z30 on the other hand has great color representation and taking into consideration its PPI count, resolution isn't all that bad either. But the best benefit from the Z30 amoled screen is the conservation of battery life. And I'll take that aspect over LCD any day of the week!

I love my Z30 over my Z10 for watching movies. Blacks are actually black. It looks wicked. I wouldn't go back to the Z10.
