hey everyone,
I got a broken screen Z30 that I had had repaired and gave to my brother since he wanted to upgrade from a soon to die BB Torch.

anyways, after giving him the phone and him testing it, he told me that front facing camera isnt working. When I looked at it, it gives an error "Camera cannot be started". I looked around and tried all the things I found, including wiping and reloading the OS. Nothing worked.

i checked the ribbon cable for the cable to the motherboard and it was plugged in.

Does anyone know if the front facing camera can be replaced at all?

Sure, provided you can actually find/buy/salvage a front camera. All I'm seeing is full housings - https://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...item3ce71d0aae .. though I suppose $8 isn't bad anyway lol.

Front camera is easily replaceable if u can find one. It just pushes into the metal frame, maybe it's not seated in correctly?

question is how do I take it out of the little metal frame?

I opened the phone up and tried to push it in to see if it wasn't seated in properly. I reconnected all the ribbon cables as well. still no go.

From what I remember , I just pried at the bottom of the frame and that released it.

That whole part is connected to the rear flash, and the notification led, so if those two both work that suggests the connector is in ok .

I think I'd try downloading one of the front cam apps in BBW, it's an easy check to if it's the software is the problem.

thanks. I'll try the app idea and see how it goes. I tried loading different software versions and the back camera works and takes pics. front always prompts "Camera can't be started", i'll check the flash and the LED and see how it goes.

tried a camera app and same thing. Front camera wont open. app i tried is called eCamera. When I switch to front facing camera, it gives error "camera failed to open"

I downloaded Blackberry Virtual Expert. When I do the front camera test, I get the error "Permission Missing - BBVE is missing aplication permission: Camera".

When I view the permissions, Its set to allow.

Hi, I am mid switch over of both the backing and the screen of my z30. I have the housing open, I have the motherboard from old z30 into the back, when I realized that the front camera is not in my replacement backing, (just like the pictures - empty housing) so I am trying to get my old one out. Any tips on how to remove from housing without damaging??


edit ---- the old housing was toast anyway - so don't be gentle just bend the walls away, and pry up the cam. pops right into the new housing! So far so good
