Is it me or my Z30 takes forever to load to the main os?

If I restart it...it boots and sticks on the BlackBerry logo for a good 1-2 minutes.

Same thing when turning off and the turning back on.

Are all Z30 like this? Must be loading quite a number of start up programs?

I find my Z30 takes a minute, maybe a bit longer. There are other devices that boot up quicker, but hey - what's a minute when you're using a Z30?!

Mine is around minute and a half. Doesn't bother me. But I do remember hearing the boot time would be less. My 9850 also booted in about a minute and a half.

The reason that it takes so long is it is checking all the OS files to make sure that none are modified. This is done to make it secure and the reason that you can't root a BB10 device.

Thanks for the reply guys. I was used to, to the boot up time on my previous Nexus devices which was less than 15 seconds. When I received the Z30 I was worried sick and thought it was frozen.

No need to turn off or reboot a z30, not for the 4 weeks I've had mine anyway.

When a BlackBerry shuts down normally it clears it's kernels and performs other security based actions, correspondingly security checks and kernels reload during startup, which take longer than other phones. A small price to pay for security. That being said, even with the new micro-kernel architecture, which would take longer, compromises have been made to speed up boot time and is faster than the legacy BB OS phones.

I go weeks and sometimes months without turning off my phone. There is only one really good reason that I've heard and that's a battery swap. You don't have to worry about that obviously. I had one CB member tell me that it was the law to turn off your cellular devices when flying and that's why he was annoyed with the long boot time. He wasn't wrong, but it's called Airplane Mode for a reason. You don't have to turn off the phone. You can just turn off the radios and you are in compliance. Just put it away during takeoff and landing. Airplane mode also helps to charge your phone a bit faster, but you may be missing important calls. So tell us, why do you need to turn off your phone?

15 seconds of no security checks. That's the difference.

I perform soft resets or re-starts after all app installs or deletions and perform hard resets every couple of weeks just to clean up and clear the cobwebs so to speak. Hard resets also help prevent bugs, corrupted files or processes from being retained. Nothing wrong with restarts or reboots periodically and actually considered beneficial by many.

What do you mean by soft and hard resets? I can only see one option on the Z30 which is "restart"?

Would a faster processor alleviate this problem?

Not really. This is a process where the boot loader scans and does a checksum on all system files to make sure that they have not been tampered or modified. It is a function of scanning files and storage access limits are the biggest bottleneck.

I don't think so. It's more all the security checking.

Actually, if you compare it to the Z10 or Q10 it's considerably faster. So there's that. The good thing is as has been pointed out is that the OS is so good at cleaning up after itself it doesn't need reboots. Just leave it on. Sleep power consumption is nearly nothing, so turning to off at night doesn't really save you much battery, if anyone is worried about that. Battery on the Z30 is phenomenal.

A faster cpu would help and faster memory would most certainly help although I think faster memory uses a lot more power.
