The story:
- purchased new Z30 in early October
- love the unit
- great stereo, BB Express and compass / lat & long turn me on
- four days ago the battery gets drained and the Z30 shuts down
- subsequent charging attempts fail
- the red light blinks. Yellow light appears. More red lights. BlackBerry logo comes and goes. Red drained battery symbol appears. Lightening symbol across red drained battery appears.
- this also repeats when charging via PC/USB and car charger
- the mobile unit then gets returned to the store
- second Z30 now functional and but was not fully charged
- next morning second unit gets drained
- charging fails and the above lights and Blackberry logo cycle repeats
- now we are onto the third Z30
- fortunately the same problem occurs while at the mobility store

The Cause / Solution:
- in each of the three situations above the same BlackBerry flip case was installed
- we removed the flip case from third Z30 and the unit quickly booted and started working

- we plugged the drained second unit into the charger (without the flip case installed) it took some time to gather enough power but it also quickly booted and started.

- it appears to either be an issue with my flip case or the case style.

If this happens to you - try removing the flip case while charging and let us know it you have success.

In the interim I will try another flip case or down grade to a belt holster - but the Z30 is a keeper !!!!!!

The flip case could be interfering and not allowing a tight secure connection with the micro usb connecter

Made sure the case did not interfere - unless it is an internal issue when the case is pressed and snapped into position.

Interesting post. Another member had a similar issue a few weeks ago. Perhaps there are some lemon cases out there. I did notice the cases were made in China and perhaps some poor ones slipped through the cracks

My flip case was holding the top button down which caused my phone to do endless reboots. Turned out the little foam piece around the top speaker hole in the case was sticking to the lock/power button on the phone. I removed the foam from the flip case and have had no problems since.

In my case the charging symbol appeared intermittently. This said I'll check for what you suggest. Thanks.
