Well... I gave in.

Just bought the Z30 to replace my beloved Z10* and while I am waiting it to arrive I was wondering if there is possible to restore my BlackBerry Link backup of the Z10 into the Z30?

Is there any other (better) way to transfer all the data off the Z10 to the Z30?

* BTW the Z10 still going strong and I will be keeping it as a backup phone.

I've never tried loading the backup from one device onto a different model, say Z10 -> Z30. What I do is plug the old phone in, in Link go to device switch and it will take you on the steps, eventually it tells you to plug in your new device and it transfers everything across.

There is also the "Device Switch" app in blackberry world, download this on both phones and follow the instructions. Never tried this option but seems pretty cool, especially because you avoid using a computer.

I backed up my Z10 on BlackBerry Link. Then I set my new Z30 on BlackBerry Link. After that I restored all from the 10 to the 30. That worked flawless for me. Good luck and enjoy your new phone

I saw the Device Switch app but I wanted a way to transfer apps and their settings across. I'll try both ways and see what works best.

The restore did transfer the settings for me. All I had to do was sign back into my email and fb

I just switched from a z10 to the z30. I had to update the OS on the z30 before I could use my back up from the z10

Depending on where you are, if the OS level of the Z10 is higher than that of the Z30 like it is with Verizon, you can't transfer. I ended up installing a leaked OS that was actually higher than the z10 and was then able to transfer data and settings.

Ok. Solved it. Here is what happened.

Once the Z30 was setup you need to just login to the BlackBerry account from the phone.

Then connect to BlackBerry Link and it will ask you to either restore from back-up or set it up as a new phone.

Select back-up and the select the latest back-up and you are good to go. Everything will be restored bar the side loaded apps (snap etc).

If you did not bothered to login to your BlackBerry account from the Z30 then it will not restore from the back-up as it will say the BlackBerry accounts do not match.
