Verizon has offered me (without extending my current contract) to trade in my Z10 and get a Z30. I would not have to pay up front and no activation fee, but instead my monthly bill would go up $550/24...approximately $23/month. After 1 year, I would be eligible to do the trade in again for a new phone.

Kind of like leasing a car.

    Should I?

Or should I just buy it outright for $550 and keep my Z10? Darn...

When I was thinking about doing this which was very recently, I was told you can upgrade twice in one year, which of course would mean after six months you would be able to do that. The phone has to be in great condition when you do this though. With the holiday fast approaching and not having all of the money upfront to purchase a Z30 for full retail, I decided yesterday to buy a Z10 from another source and have it activated by Verizon. This way I will be able to keep my unlimited, and when then Z30 comes down in price after another month or two, then I can pay full retail for it, or even if do go with EDGE at that time, the payments will be even lower still.

I loved the Z30 but I think I would be totally happy with the 10 as well, and just wait to see what comes down the pike in the next six months or so from BB

I did this. If half of the phone is pay off by 6 months you can upgrade after 6 months. If not one year which if you do the math half will be pay off. Anyway if you have a old filp phone you can trade in the old phone. Thats what I did. You then sell the z10.

If you have the funds to purchase it outright that would be my suggestion. I no longer want to be stuck on contracts from carriers.

I'd buy it out right if you can afford it. You can then sell the Z10 to make some of your money back.

In Verizon plans, you are paying almost 20 dollars a month for your phone. On top of that you'll add another 20 dollars, and own nothing.. Basically you'll be paying 40 dollars a month just to lease the phone.

I was in VZW store today and of course they had the Z30 on display but none in stock. All of a sudden, VZW rep said if I upgrade my Mom's flip phone, I could save $200 off retail on new smartphone. Then the light bulb went off...

I decided to do that and order the Z30 now at $549 less $200=$349. When I get it with the sim for my Mom's phone, I will go into the store, tell them I want the flip phone to stay active on my Mom's number and then get a sim for my # on the Z30.

I called VZW customer care and there is nothing stating that I can't do that! Manipulation will save me $200 and from having to pay the Edge monthly cost of the phone .

    Merry Christmas!

Only phones I'd have to trade are Z10 and 9930, and I won't do that. But doesnt matter now, see previous post!

Better to do dpp program as you don't have to turn in your old phone. It's how I got my 30. With device payment program you pay full.price for the phone over 12 months.

From my oh so pretty Z30!
