Been with BB for 6 years now. My contract upgrade is due in a few months. I have no experience of BB10 but would really like the Z30.

I currently run a 9900 which I really love, but reading the Z30 forum indicates that I will be missing a great deal of features.

I really dont want to go to another platform so can you guys that have already upgraded give me some confidence that I will be making the right decision.

I have owned a playbook for 18 months so I do understand a gesture based system.

    Cheers, Alan.

You will absolutely love the Z30, I have had it since day one. I have also owned the 10 and the q and by far the Z30 is the best, fast, great speakers, excellent typing.

Glad to hear your six year contract is complete

Kidding aside I have also been with BlackBerry for just a little longer than you - and worked through many BlackBerry mobile units.

Like you I'm a PB owner. This item is now my movie player when in the air.

Like you I have used the BlackBerry 9900.

The Zthirty has been in my hands for over two months and can honestly tell you I never put the thing down.

My wife and son use the other fruity mobile unit. I really can not see the attraction. Maybe I drink colder water and have not fallen for the spell?

I like being different. Many good things come to those who buck the trend.

The Zthirty is one rockin unit. You will not be sorry if you give it a try.

I've looked at it in my local Vodafone shop and I must admit that it shines above all others in build quality. Love the screen real estate and battery life. Just hope it will give me all the goodies that my 9900 has. (shame about the charging contacts)

Yes, I cannot go for locked in ecosystems either. Just hearing a bit of negativity on the Z30 forum concerns me.

I went from the 9900 to the Z10 and I'm loving it. So, I would imagine you would love the Z30 since it is even better than the Z10.

Nothing to worry about OP. The Z30 is a fantastic mobile. Went from a 9700 to the Z10 when it came out then upgraded to the Z30. I am running the leaked 1055 OS and it's just amazing.

I say do it, the Z30 is a true BlackBerry!!!

That was one heck of a jump Ben from the 9700. I still use my old 9700 as a music player. I think I have my answer already but I didn't need a great deal of convincing!

What are the main different core issues that I will be missing?

For me and my business use none now with the 1055 leak. I am not a huge app guy. I need my mobile to efficiently operate my business and it does that in spades. Battery life is stunning. Sometimes well over 34 hours for normal use!

IMO we are really starting to see the OS become what it should have been when BB10 was released.

The Z30 is a really well built BlackBerry. The other 5" mobiles are pure rubbish. This phone is built to last and even with the leaked OS is rock solid for me!

Lots more to come from BlackBerry and BB10. It's going to fun to watch and enjoy!

Oh and if it's apps you want. The leaked OS and the next OS will enable you to use whatever Android app you want and it's dead easy to install and use! So in reality there is no app gap anymore!!!

I as you Ben, run my own business and apps are not my main criteria. as long as I can still operate in an efficient mode with the Z30 then that's the direction for me

I think you will be amazed Alan. My girlfriend uses my Z10 now and had a 9900 before. OMG she adores the Z10 just for the typing experience alone!

I also owned a 9900 before upgrading to the Z10. One thing I miss and you may as well, are the keyboard shortcuts. You would get those with the Q10 however. Other than that, I think you will love it.

I staryed with bold 8830 followed by a very brief and regretful stint with 9800torch to the bold 9900 and finally to Z30 about a month ago. I loved it at first but it took a bit of adjustment. I lost my keyboard shortcuts and the hard keys. After a month with it, I understand it much better I love it even more than any previous. This keyboard has a few neat little tricks up its sleeve and honestly my typing speed on this thing already destroys what I was doing on the bold. Unfortunately I still have to look at the keys though.

Like you said the Playbook is gesture based and so is this. It is very intuitive. BB10 is way more in-depth with the gestures and you will like it even more.

Several of my friends have recently upgraded from iDrones to SGS4s and laughed because I bought another blackberry cause my hardware is so "inferior"... yet these "gurus" didnt know what the NFC was on their phones or that it even existed.

I wouldnt trade my Z30 for anything. So far I think it owns this gen. Im still at 60% battery life ffs and its almost bedtime. My buddy Archie already charged his S4 two times before he even left work. I told him to get a spare S4 in case we have a power outage.

Dude get the z30, it's amazing, all your work get done faster than the 9900 and besides if you don't like the phone, then you can return it back, it's one heck of a phone!

I've been a loyal BlackBerry consumer since 2008 and have run through the gamut of devices. Every new device built on the last (Pearl 8100 to Curve 8900 to Bold 9700, 9780 and then 9900). When I made the jump from the 9900 to the Z10 it changed my world and converted me to touchscreen typing. Like you, I did get prepped with gesture controls with my PlayBook so the loss of the track pad was not as jarring for me as it was for other legacy folks.

When I got the Q10, it brought me the best of both worlds with the BB10 OS and QWERTY keyboard but I was spoiled by the Z10 screen.

I just recently got the Z30 and it's a quantum leap over any previous BlackBerry. Fantastic build, amazing screen, tremendous typing experience and unparalleled battery performance (I'm talking close to 48 hours of heavy use on a single charge).

Take the plunge, make the leap, pick your cliche. As a six year user, you deserve the best that BlackBerry has to offer. You owe it to yourself to experience something that us BlackBerry owners could only dream of back in the dark days of 2012!

Do buy whatever device and os you feel will be best for you. With that said, the z30 IMO is by far the best BlackBerry device ever made. I thought it'd be too big but after getting it I believe this should have been the first touch screen bb10 phone released.

The 9900 is a well built device and is one of if not the best bbos devices made so I'm sure you'll enjoy the upgrade.

I went from Tour to 9850 to 9930 to Z10 to Z30. I also have a PlayBook, but don't use it as much as I used before I got the Z10. Each one was a step up. 9950: track pad, 9930: touch screen, Z10: full touch and swipe, Z30 antenna and battery.
The great thing about the BBOS phones is that once you learn all of the shortcuts, you can navigate very quickly.

The Z10 and Z30 maintain the BlackBerry goodness in a different way. Hub, peek and flow are addictive. The keyboard is great, but it will change the way you type. I often to type with one finger and swipe up words instead of typing full words with two thumbs. The Z30 is a bit big and top heavy for two comfortable two thumb typing. I also miss the rubberized back of the Z10.

If you don't like change, go for the Q10, otherwise, go for a Z. For a work device, I would get Z10 unless I needed to view documents or if I had to be away from a charger for long stretches of time, or if service is spotty.

Edit: Love love love the toast notifications on 10.2. I used to have an app for that on my 9930, but the built-in toasts are much better. Also, I miss headless apps. Hope that is coming soon.
