but here it is! he's in love with the keyboard and hub finds some problems with the camera (mainly the focusing and ui) but was surprised by the quality, and his main problem is lack of apps (mostly instagram, vine, aviary, which he couldn't sideload because he wasn't allowed to once the competition started) EDIT: He actually did try to sideload instagram before the competition but didn't work for some reason.

    I HATE THE TITLE THOUGH.

    Imaged when it's fully baked!

EDIT: All in all, a fair assessment of the situation. And it's not a murder fest in the coments either.

Oddly enough, on the front page of Wired it shows up as "the Underdog Phone That Could" rather than half-baked, but the title changes once you click on the article to read it. The front page title seems more fitting to me.

Nice review, but oooouch. I was sorry to see the damage on the corner silver chin when he dropped his Z30. Like he said, "if it was an iPhone 4 or 4S, it would have been a goner."

I rather see it as a joke MOST people won't get. They will all go "yeah, it's half baked, forget about it, BB is dead" instead of actually noticing he has very little to say when it comes to shortcoming.

It pretty much boilds down to "could have my apps in here, I miss them"!

Yup, oh how I wonder how it would have went if he got to install those apps just by loading it from an apk downloaded via the browser

I can guess. Someone else posted this interesting and relevant article but the thread got deleted in 3 minutes. For the life of me, I can't grok why that happened.

Cool, fair review, but we all know the Z30 is capable of so much more. 10.2.1 should have been used. Imagine despite the AWESOMENESS of the Z30 being held back (no 10.2.1 inside) Tim manages to win 1st place by a Large margin. We all know... Long live BlackBerry! The Z30 has yet to be heard out loud (not enough people know about it). Its time will come. When I show my Z30? The expression on the people faces are priceless. In my experience, people appear more willing to consider BlackBerry once I have shown them demonstrations of the Z30 in action.

    Excellent article!!!!

Overall a very fair and honest review. The apps do lack, this is BlackBerry biggest setback and thankfully options are coming soon.

The camera is not great and can be improved, I agree. Doesn't mean it's terrible either just needs improvements.

The touch keyboard is the best, this is well known among us but does need to get more publicity. The Hub is fantastic and I can only imagine how beneficial it was for him at the show receiving such high traffic of messages.

This is a positive piece as it is true to where the phone is today. Sooner than later a lot more of those negatives will fade away

Great article, nice to see some media giving the BlackBerry Z30 some good press. I have to agree with the camera focusing issue though. Just came back from a trip and the camera at times had a really hard time focusing on receipts, but maybe it had something to do with taking the picture less than a foot away. Otherwise, the Z30's the best smartphone I've ever used.

I wonder how his battery would have lasted had he not been charging it throughout the day?

I think the camera focusing issue is not exclusive to the Z30. My Q5 and my old Z10 had similar issues as well. Sometimes a picture is already in focus but for some reason it sometimes still hunts back and forth. However if the image is in focus the pictures usually turn out pretty good.

Surely once 10.2.x is formally released Blackberry has to put a hand in their pocket and make a proper fist at marketing the Z30?

What's the point in spending a fortune in developing a product and then not try and sell it?

How are you going to revive a brand if you dont advertise the flagship product?

    I just dont get it...

An fair, unbiased and accurate assessment of the Z30, a rarity to say the least. Had Tim loaded the 10.2.1.1925 leak and side loaded all the apps he needed it might have been a 200+ point margin of victory. For that reason I think that the title is semi-accurate within the context of the development and functionality of the BB10 OS at present relative to that of the other three OSes.
