So I haven't been taking very many pics with my z30, I previously had the z10 and had no issues with the camera. I'm not a professional photographer nor do I wish to be, in other words, I was perfectly happy with the z10 camera. I knew upgrading to the z30 that shouldn't change, since as far as I'm aware, they share the same camera. So here's my problem...

I decided to take some photos on new years eve during the countdown etc. I haven't used my z30 for night shots so maybe it's been like this the whole time, but when I was taking the pics they looked rather umm, not good. They have this strange set of lines running through all the pictures. Vertical if taken normally and horizontal of taken horizontally. You can literally watch the lines shoot across the screen when looking at the display before taking the pic, like some sort of matrix software glitch. Needless to say now that I've seen it I can't unsee it maybe it's normal, but I'm going to post some pics and let you guys decide. I also found out today that my micro hdmi port is a bit finicky...I feel like I have a dud lol.

    New years night

Low-light on the BlackBerry 10 cameras really is dreadful. Everything I see in your images seems pretty normal to me.

They actually happen on normal light shots too, just much more faint. I guess I'm just confused since I never had these lines on my z10. But if it's normal, I guess I'll live with it haha.

Well, I wouldn't say it's normal for ideal photo conditions. If you're seeing them then might be something more to it. Which OS are you on?

1925 at the moment. I'm going to be restoring latest carrier release to see if it's a software issue next.

What's the problem though ? The hardware or the software ? Or both ?

Natural environments can have strange effects on photography. Try taking pictures of plain black and white backgrounds (entire window size) in variable lights to isolate suspects.

The lines are due to the camera having to use a high ISO (sensitivity) because there isn't much light for it to pick up. Higher ISO = More grainy noise/funny lines down images. All digital cameras do it, the smaller the camera sensor, the more noticeable high ISO sensitivity is. It won't happen in normal images, but the darker it gets, the more noticeable lines/noise become. Pretty much all camera phones are affected by this, it can be improved with software, but not totally removed.

So my guess is BB10 camera software can be greatly improved.

I think so, especially as it has seemingly been getting worse over the last few leaks. BlackBerry has more than just the camera to improve, but we're getting there

I wouldn't say 'greatly' but it can be improved, it was better in some previous builds vs. the current leaked builds.

I think that's what I have and I believe that it is badly calibrated amoled screen. Do you see the same lines in your PC?
I believe you only witness them on the phone and only on dark backgrounds.

They are very visible on my pc, I was using "play on" with windows media player and that's pretty much what sparked me to come here. I started looking through the z30 pics thread and noticed how much better everybody else's photos seemed. Especially at low light. I've been busy with work, that's why I haven't said much since my initial post, but I plan on testing all the things suggested soon.

    Thanks all
