I'm going to Europe shortly and am trying to avoid a roaming package...I don't need to call or text when I'm there...I figured I would just use hotels wi-fi each morning and night to retrieve emails...I know I can shut off messaging , and automatic updates...but I can stop z30 from pushing emails when I do start it up, as all it takes is a bunch of emails ( and I mean a bunch) to start coming in and there goes data usage, even if I get a roaming package ?

Try toggling off your Mobile Network and then turning on your wifi when appropriate. Alternatively, you could leave Mobile Network on and just turn off Data Services.

Leave the phone in airplane mode. Only turn on wifi when you need it.
