Dying for a Z30 I'm tied into this 3 year contract from rogers. I updated to a galaxy s3 in the fall of 2012 on black Friday for 1 cent. Hated android. When the z10 came out in the new year I swapped someone on Kijiji my s3 for their z10. Never looked back, this thing is amazing.

Anyways, I'm dying for a z30 but I still have 2 years left before I can upgrade. Definitely not buying the phone outright for $700

Well, I'm not gonna buy another phone on contract again. I prefer to pay more for the phone and not being attached to a company/device.
Anyway I'm pretty sure you could find some Z30 cheaper looking on the net

Have you checked into your early upgrade fee? If you have access to myRogers website, there is an option ( view/pay device balance) to show the early upgrade fee. It may be less than you think.

There is also a suggestion that with the new telecom rules, those on older three year contracts could cancel their contract sometime in June 2015 without a penalty. Its not totally clear yet and the carriers are appealing this loophole. If you call Rogers and talk to retentions, they may be able to do something for you now, rather than face loosing you in June.

Never heard of a loophole, any links? I'm pretty sure when you "sign" a contract there's no way out, the CRTC rules are for newer customers or if you renew

The rules read that they can be applied retroactively, so three year contracts could be cancelled two years after they were signed. I had the date wrong, which is June 2015, not 2014. In other words, if you signed a three year contract prior to June of 2013, you could cancel it after two years and not pay a penalty, as long as you cancel after June 2015.

"The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission has said its wireless code should apply to all contracts, no matter when they were entered into, by no later than June 3, 2015.

But the telecom companies have said a number of three-year contracts won't expire until after that deadline, potentially leaving them on the hook for part of the cost of customer smartphones, some of which can cost $700.

"In effect, therefore, under the wireless code customers may terminate their wireless service contracts after two years without paying any cancellation fees," the notice of appeal said."

Im with Bell and I have an early upgrade fee or $250 right now plus the price of the phone if I sign up for 2 Years. Plus I have a $75 credit towards the Z30. I'm 1 year into my 3 Year contract and I'll be getting the Z30 with this option since I'm already there for another 2 years. So . all I do is sign up for 2 years and the phone is mine. The phone will cost me $350 all in if I were to buy it right now. But I'm gonna wait another week till my billing cycle and the price will go down a bit more...maybe by 30 or 40 bucks. So you should definitely have an early upgrade fee that will save you a bunch of money than buying it outright.

Hey Pavolko, just curious have you purchased any mobile insurance for your phone???? I bought mine from eBay but was denied Ensquared coverage due to not having the original receipt. After paying $440 for the phone I'd sleep better with some type of coverage.

Honestly, I'd just stick it out on the z10. It is a great phone and everyone gets the hunger for a new device when they are released. Look at the title of your own thread: I really "want" a Z 30. You want one but your don't need it. Save your pennies and just wait for the next release. You'll be happy you did. If you get the z30 in about 6 months to a year from now I expect you will put up another post and it will read : "I really want the z50".

Good luck and enjoy your z10.

OP, you have another 2yrs in your 3 year contract. Sign a new 2year contact and get the Z30 for $250. You're not reducing your contract end date but you get the Z30 for fairly cheap.

That's precisely what I did. I was able to get the Z30 on Rogers mid-term for $49.99 and a $50 rebate (on contract though, of course), so the phone ended up costing me $0.00!
