I just purchased a Z30 from Blackberry US while they had the 30% off sale. I received it no problem, played with it a bit and then tried to swap my sim card over from my Motorola Moto X. Not gonna happen, being a noob to this tech stuff I didn't realize there was 2 sizes of sim cards. My Moto X takes the Nano size and the Z30 takes the Micro size apparantly. Anyways, go into the Fido store to get a sim card and the rep takes the sim card out of his phone and puts it in mine and says the phone isn't unlocked, it won't recognize his sim card. Now I'm getting this second hand as my son, who is more up with this than I, left it at that. Everyone I've talked to says it should work, any ideas.

Go to Settings/Security and Privacy/Sim Card
Do all 3 (Network, Network Subset, and Service Provider) say Unlocked?

If you see a button that says unlock network then phone is carrier locked.

If you bought the phone from BBerry USA store it should already be unlocked. Unlocked is unlocked... Canada, Botswana...

That would be locked.

Use the link someone posted above to unlock it if you want. I find it especially useful if you do especially when traveling. Just pop in a local sim and not worry about roaming

ok, Finally got the skinny. The phone is unlocked but the Fido rep doesn't know his as* from a hole in the ground. Why doesn't that suprise me. So I go back and purchase a sim card and he gives me the standard size instead of the micro size. Grrrrrrrr. Back to get a micro. I did check the settings and it's all unlocked, even my wife tried her sim card in it and it worked fine. Thanks for all the input guys/gals. Much appreciated.

Sadly, Fido reps who know nothing about BlackBerry are becoming their default. One of them even told me last week that BlackBerry were dead. The Fido package I use suits me well, but otherwise, their service sucks.
