My friend purchased ear buds for his iPhone. I plugged them into my Z30 and they don't work. Not supposed to?

Although it's rare, some headphones designed for the iPhone won't work in other devices. Especially those with dedicated talk control / music control buttons.

Not that it's much help, but I've had the same issue with a couple of sets of klipsch earbuds that said made for iPhone. work on my android and apple stuff, not so well on my Z10 or 9900.

Try restarting your phone. My bose iPhone/ipod head phones work awesome but 2-3 times over the past year the volume controls stopped working but a restart seams to fix it. Love the ability to change tracks by a long volume press.

Try pushing them in more or less. I discovered once that I wasn't actually pushing my headphones all the way into a poet.

I've purchased and have used many in-ear head sets including monster, urbeats, ajays, Nocs, skull candy, and have never had any issues using them on my blackberry devices although designed for use on ios.

The made for Iphones use a 4 conductor plug for music control thats the reason you are having problems.

Read the part of the wiki on TRSS for audio jacks Apparently the Z30 uses the other non-Apple standard.

All oem iphone earphones will work just fine with any BBRY phones. I have an oem earphones from iP 4 and two years ago my sister gave me the ear-pod from her iP 5S and they both work just fine.

Though I have a peep with the oem Z30 earphones, they are horrid in sound & very cheaply made. My oem Z10 earphones sounds much better than the Z30 earphones. Isn't the Z30 supposed to be BBRY's flagship phone (at the moment) and BBRY included a very bad sounding earphones and again, a very cheap earphones.
A $500 phone and it came with a cheap & horrid sound earphones!!

After I've tried the Z30 earphones for 2 minutes, I took them of my ears and I refuse to use them!!
Going to put them in my junk bin, for last resort spare earphones.

Yes, I know the Z30 has a better built-in speakers on the phones itself. But I don't think and want to always play my music or when on the phone use the built-in speaker phone every time. That would just annoy & disturb other people. Also the topic here is about earphones not speaker-phone.

And like my previous post, Z30 is BBRY flagship phone (at the moment), I'm just shocked that they included a horrible and cheap earphones. I already have and most of the time use the BBRY mutimedia earphones, though it is an optional accessory that have to be purchased separately.

I too have had the issue, more so on my unlocked Z30 than on my unlocked Q10. I typically use Etymotic and while they did work for a time with the Z30, they now almost never function properly.

However, they are fine on the iPad, the laptop, etc.

And Bose QC15's work fine, despite being made for the iPhone . . . Go figure.

Im currently using two brands that are lesser known but fantastic in quality. NOCS N500 and A-JAYS 5 both from Sweden and have awesome sound quality.

I use the set you have in the picture, but I don't have any interchangeable bling parts like you show.

I recently shopped on Fleabay for some items to go with my Z30. I got a BlackBerry earpiece that compares favourably with my Jawbone (old) Icon but much lighter. I also got the Multi-Media BlackBerry Earphones shown in the above pic. I got the spiffy case shown together with the alternative faceplates and silicones. Strangely, both came from Australia although from different suppliers. Sound is not bad but not up to the standard of my Sures and Klipsch.
