Is anyone having difficulty getting HD Voice to work on the Z30? I'm on Telus and if I use the same sim card on my Z10 I get the HD Voice (if I call a BB10 or IPhone Telus phone). No such luck on the Z30. Amazing phone by the way...

Works fine for me. Interestingly enough the HD Voice icon is displayed when calling a 1-800 number too.

I really miss this feature. I'm not aware of any phone setting that I could change as my understanding is this feature (HD Voice) is Carrier controlled.

I think this is a Telus issue. Just exchanged the phone and still no HD voice. Probably a network configuration thing.

U know there are some requirements for when a call is HD voice such as:
    - level of signal strength (on both phones)
    - connection type to network....LTE (on both phones)
    - phone type of recipient (must also suport HD voice)
    - maybe some others

Just curious. I am also on Telus, and when I place a call, HD appears and then is replaced by the call timer. Does the HD stay visible when it's active? If so, I've never had an HD call.

Yes I'm aware of the preconditions for HD voice. I conducted test calls to a colleague with a Q10 and using the same SIM card, the Z10 was getting HD Voice every time. If I then put the SIM card back in the Z30 the HD icon never appears and the sound is not HD quality (easy to hear the difference).

Good test, must be network related then.

HD voice = High Definition. It is a codec designed to use the same amount of "space" as a normal phone call, but packs wider frequencies into the same amount of space (G723). As mentioned already, both parties must have HD capable handsets, and both parties must be on LTE, and the carrier must allow this.

Actually, HD voice does not require that the users be in an LTE area, but that they both be on the same network. I am aware this is how it is for Telus, or at least that was what was explained to me. Both devices do need to be HD voice compatible and sold directly from the carrier (no imports at this point in time).

I was hoping the Z30 would be HD voice compatible as one requirement was to have multiple microphones on the device and this phone has 4 as opposed to the usual 2 (3 on the Q10 I think). I do still hear an improvement in call quality either way, but it would be nice to have had HD voice in there.

Both devices don't need to be on the same carrier or even sold thru a carrier at all. I have talked HD voice over to another person who has an unlocked device on a different career than me.

At last check, with Telus in particular, the two devices do need to be on the same carrier. This may be different for other carriers around the world...

Still no HD calls on my Z30. Telus is working on their network to trouble shoot. In the mean time, BBM Natural Sound voice calls have been amazing (worked with a Q10 to Z30). You can see the Natural Sound logo on the top left of the BBM screen during call.

My mom's phone only supports 4g, but when I call from my z10 i get the hd icon.

LTE connection should not be a prerequisite since VOLTE hasn't been implemented, IIRC.

I'm also a Telus customer and have never seen the HD icon since switching from the Z10 to the Z30. I just got off the phone with technical support; they assigned me a ticket. Hopefully others will phone with the same issue, and the network team will do something about it. The guy on the phone had never even heard of HD voice at all!

Just wondering why are you so desperate for HD voice? I mean I know it makes it clearer and everything but you're not going to hear any different words or anything to a normal call?

Clearer sound. And, the phone supports it, so why not.

Why would I listen to a 56kbps mp3 file when I could possibly have a 320kbps version? Just an example. If I can have clearer sound, why wouldn't I want it? Just sounds better.

How long is your average phone call though? 5-10 minutes tops? Sure somethings you get the odd one or two that go on for longer but surely you can cope

HD voice is working fine for me on my Z30; however, here in Thailand we do not have LTE at all. We are only running 3G.

It's definitely a combination of network as well as handset hardware.

From what I've seen all new Android and iPhones have it as well as the latest Nokia.

From which carrier to what carrier? I've yet to see this actually work. I did try from my Rogers Q10 (with Rogers LTE SIM) calling an iPhone on Rogers, but he had no data plan so wasn't sure if that was a factor. Also have a friend on Fido, I wonder if it has to be the same carrier if a Rogers>Fido call would count. Anyone tried?
