And you are in a TMO LTE area?
Yes. I am in El Paso. T-Mobile claims this area is 4g LTE. Maybe band 4 is locked by Verizon. It would not surprise me knowing them.

    Why lock only one band?

I had a Lumia 928, and also a 822. Both were unable to send SMS on Verizon network. Data, mms, and calling would work. Sms would work if you were to insert and other non-t-mobile sim card.

I know this is a little off topic but i have a Tmobile z10 and when i do a manual network scan i get Verizon LTE, anyone else see that? Makes me wonder if the when Tmobile uses the 700mhz they bought from Verizon if i will be able to take advantage of the improved service. Has Anyone Tried a Verizon Z30 on T-Mobile?-img_00000418.png

That's Verizon's band 4 (1700 MHz) LTE. You must be in one of the places where Verizon has deployed this network. Verizon's 700 MHz network's frequency range and AT&T's 700 MHz network's range (which this phone has the band for) don't overlap.

Makes me wonder if the when Tmobile uses the 700mhz they bought from Verizon if i will be able to take advantage of the improved service.
Now that will be something to look out for. The 700 MHz spectrum TMO bought is covered by band 12, which encompasses the entire range of band 17. That being said, from what I've been told, it's not a simple matter of overlapping frequencies. I'm not sure if I believe this though, because the original source of this information was AT&T (albeit talking about their own networks)

Perhaps you may be able to take advantage of the network, although TMO does not currently have phones available that can take advantage of the new 700 MHz spectrum.. but with the bands already inside the VZW Z30 it seems like a vary narrow possibility. That being said you may want to see exactly which markets these bands will cover in image below Has Anyone Tried a Verizon Z30 on T-Mobile?-screen-shot-2014-02-01-3.14.03-am.png

sorry for blurred image, its a screenshot of a screen shot.
