Is there a way you can identify an app that requires Google play services before downloading?

There are some indicators for the need of Google Play Services:

1. The app want's to display some kind of map (Google Maps API)
2. The app wants to use positioning services (Google Maps API)
3. The app offers multiplayer features (most likely wants to connect to Google Play Games or Google+)
4. The app is free to play and displays ads (Google Ads API)

You can try to identify apps that use Google Play Services by looking at the permissions that the app uses. In Play Store (not Snap) you can look at the permissions of an app before installing it. Just search the app, open the details view and scroll down to the end where you will find an option to display the required permissions.

If the app uses In-App billing, Location access or Identity access, you can almost be sure that it uses Google Play Services.

Follow Cobalts link and install Google Play Services. If there are android apps that you need but require Google Play Services, it's a a game changer! Install it and don't look back.
