The only differences are: wireless charging and frequencies. Wireless charging model isn't released yet.

From what has been confirmed the wireless charging version is going to be made exclusive to Verizon. There is a lot on this discussed here in the forums. Not sure if it is going to be exclusive for a long time, as other carriers may soon get it, but to my understanding only Verizon initially. Unless BB itself releases this one too and offers it for sale on their site sometime in the future

Wireless charging may or may not be on the Verizon-only model, which is intended for their network and their network only.

My understanding of the models is from ofutur's thread, mostly this part:

    R081 - Aristo STA100-1 NA
    R089 - Astro STA100-2 EMEA
    R096 - Anisio STA100-3 Verizon
    R108 - Athos STA100-4 Sprint
    R115 - Aramis STA100-5 (Asia/Americas)
    R137 - AstroX STA100-6 LTE same as -2 + 1 band

BlackBerry has safety/info guides for the STA100-2, -3 and -5 on their site, which means that if you intend on getting a Z30 sometime soon, you should pick one of those three (-2 if you're on a STL100-2 carrier, -5 if you're on a STL100-3 carrier).

The Verizon model should still support GSM networks. It's supposed to be the STA100-3, which supports 850, 900, 1900, and 2100 3G, and 700 and 1700 LTE.

Six versions, two or three have been released, and one is about to be. Tell us what country and carrier, and we'll tell you which model to get.

I'll take you up on that offer!

I'm on FIDO in Canada, but I'm planning a six month trip through Europe and the Middle East. I've looked at the band info, and I think I'll be okay with getting an unlocked STA100-2. The other option I'm looking at is picking up a STA100-5 and hoping it works when I get overseas.

    Any advice is appreciated!

You should probably figure out which carriers you plan on using in EMEA before you get either model, just to be sure you have compatibility across the board, and when you come back to Fido.

The STL-4 also supported GSM bands, but it only takes effect when you're roaming out of the country. I tried using an STL-4 on T-mobile and AT&T to be sure, including loading dift OS and radios, etc.

With the -2, you will get 3G/HSPA+, and even LTE on a few Middle Eastern carriers (Batelco, du, Etisalat UAE are ones I know of immediately.) With the -5, you will get 3G/HSPA+ only. In Canada, with the -2, you will get LTE in most places (if not everywhere) on Rogers and Bell (and therefore probably Fido and VM Canada too,) and 3G/HSPA+ everywhere on Robellus and subsidiaries, but not WIND and other similar carriers.

On the other hand, the -5 is great for use in Canada. 3G/HSPA+ on all carriers (including WIND and similar ones) and LTE everywhere on Robellus and subsidiaries.

If I were in your position, I'd get the -5 over the -2, because a) I'd be spending a lot more time in North America than the Middle East, and b) I think the Middle Eastern LTE networks aren't as developed/deployed that I would consider getting a phone that would work on their LTE networks.

Regarding the APN issue, I'm sorry I can't help you too much there. There was this thread that may be of help.

You can get any Z30 that's available, if your carrier uses just the 1900 MHz for 3G.

What about LTE, though? Do you have LTE down there, or are you supposed to be getting it sometime soon? You might want to narrow your choices based on the future availability of LTE.

I'm hoping that there is a future accessory available for the Z30 models that will not originally have "Qi Wireless" charging capabilities out of the box. I have the -5 variant from SaskTel. The removable back cover has zero contacts for anything. The NFC radio is obviously built into the phone (Paratek maybe...?). The only available "contact" point I can see on the actual phone, is a circular hole on the back under the cover - where something might eventually plug into - like, a Qi Wireless charging back cover, made by BlackBerry with the Qi logo, and sold separately after Verizon's exclusivity is up.

That would be a nice feature to have. Especially for when a person uses their Z30 as an "all in one" business tool, where they have the USB host / serial adapter cable plugged in for a keyboard, mouse, storage, etc... this would be a nice complementary feature for "Miracast" factoring into all this as well.

Even better than using a USB keyboard and mouse with the USB adapter cable - would be if the existing BlackBerry Mini Keyboard accessory was fully functional with BlackBerry 10. This way, the Z30 could "Miracast" to a monitor, while it uses the BlackBerry Bluetooth keyboard for input, and the Z30 sits on the Qi Wireless charging mat. Basically, set the phone down and bingo - it's charging while connected and whatever...

The only thing is if the Qi Wireless charging is fast enough to handle all this activity whilst charging. Hmmm.

I guess, until then, I'm going to acquire the Z30 portable battery charging accessory. That accessory, coupled with the already outstanding battery life of the Z30, should make things much easier when it comes to battery life.

Regardless, I'm more than satisfied with the Z30 and confidently recommend it to people. Great device!!!

I think it's the best BlackBerry ever. Then, the Q10 is second place now.
