I have a PC with windows XP, so now that Microsoft have stopped supporting XP the plan is to get a new one.

With its HDMI out and USB in capabilities, I've seen some people saying that they use a Z30 instead of a PC. Do you think this is a reasonable solution?

(I've got a Q5 at the moment, if I got a Z30 it would probably be second hand).

I never tried to imagine text processing of a document with 100 pages, paragraph formatings, pictures, tables and so on on a mobile phone. Or how a 3D-CAD-application looks alike.

A computer augments your phone. Would be very frustrating to you if you tried to fully replace it with one.

Well for a while, my Z10 was my computer. Held up quite nicely, for most things.

But all it really boils down to is what your going to be doing. Obviously some things will be harder, but it's not like it isn't possible.

With my Z10 I've done some video editing. Coding (C++, Javascript, html, css), obviously some word documents.

It depends on what you use your PC for if you use it to make PowerPoints, read over PowerPoint and make small edits to it , connect to projectors then you should get a z30 the battery life is great and it's very easy to use. But if you want a large screen, where you can properly edit your presentation and create full documents you should get a PC

The Z30 might be able to replace a PC, but it will never be able to replace my Mac

I think it's probably the least reasonable solution available. It will be incredibly limited in ability. IMO, not very practical.

It's good, but it's not that good. Now if it had a desktop dock that allowed you to easily connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse and had a desktop UI mode, that would be different.

Yea man, if you use a pc mainly for browsing, email and entertainment, then totally.

Some of us require more specialised use of a pc, for example, artists and photographers, musicians, etc. (I'm sure there are more examples). Also, a lot of people can't do without their pc for gaming. But I'll tell you, since I got my z30 back in November, I've cut my PC use down by about 75%.

I wonder Z30 is designed for mobile computing, rather than a replacement to a laptop.

Not fully, but it definitely does a decent job for basic computer work and specially when travelling. Since I've had BlackBerry 10 devices (first Q5, then Q10 and currently Z30) I've also used less and less my PC and Laptop. Lately, I'm downloading videos and music mostly with the Z30.

My PC and Laptop are used now for complementary activities to my Z30, such as backing up and copying files to and from my external hard drive, as the Z30 USB OTG capability doesn't seem to support such big memory devices.

Don't fully replace it, but also don't get such an expensive new computer, you don't really need it. And quite honestly, thanks to the Z30 you wouldn't need a tablet either. Unlike with the Q5 and Q10, where it was justifiable due to the smaller screens.

Love my Q10 but now it's Z30 time!!!

My Z30 is setup in the living room.

Connects to TV via miracast (HDMI if I'm watching a movie)

Using the Microsoft sculpt Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and also connected to BlackBerry Music Gateway all at the same time.

    Could a Z30 replace my PC?-img_20140408_143112.jpg

It's does an ace job for Web, mail, basic word editing or PDF work.

Also its great to have access to: laptop hard drive, PC hard drive, box, dropbox and onedrive all through the file manager.

What I am left wanting is: A fully functional office suite and at least OS-wide landscape mode, if not a separate UI altogether.
