I just bought a z30 thinking since it is a CDMA phone and takes a sim that it would just work but straight talk says my phone is not compatible. Is there any way to fix that? What am I doing wrong?

They're clueless like most MVNO's when it comes to BlackBerry 10. Just tell them you're activating an Android handset and try the SIM in the device. Depending on what carrier they're using you may only get 3G.

Thanks to an agreement with the FTC, the GSM module on all LTE Verizon handsets is unlocked.

Straight Talk is a multi-network MVNO. If you're trying to use it on the Sprint network, it won't work. Verizon network it might, if Verizon allows first party network phones to work on MVNOs. For AT&T and TMO, rthonpm nailed it.
